Varicose Vein Treatment

Sometimes in life, you just have to take the bull by the horns and face a difficult situation head on! When it comes to potential varicose vein treatment, Metro Vein Centers makes it much easier because they provide a free first visit. That takes the financial pressure off the table so now all you need to focus on is making the appointment and quit procrastinating! They can also help you with your insurance company should you need varicose vein treatment.

One thing that can make the decision easier to finally get your varicose veins checked out is the fact that the gold standard test for varicose veins doesn’t hurt a bit. In fact, if you got the same procedure done at a spa, you might even consider it soothing! The procedure is called “doppler ultrasound” or “duplex ultrasound.” Basically, they’ll place some warm gel on a smooth piece of equipment and run this along the surface of your skin where you are seeing or feeling evidence of varicose veins.

Sound waves then penetrate your skin and take a high resolution three dimensional view of your veins. Honestly, you don’t feel anything except that warm gel and the movement of the smooth equipment along your skin. There’s absolutely no pain involved and this test will determine for sure whether or not you need varicose vein treatment.

Here’s what the vein doctor will be looking for in the ultrasound scan. First, they’ll want to know whether or not they see structural damage to the valves in your veins that prevent the back flow of blood as it is returned to your heart. Second, they’ll be looking for any signs of damage to the vessel walls. Third, they’ll be looking for any evidence of blood clots or thickening of the vein wall that may lead to clots. Fourth, they’ll be looking for “venous reflux.” This is where the blood in your veins may be flowing in the opposite direction than it is supposed to flow.

If the vein doctor at Metro Vein Centers, or another vein clinic, does find evidence of varicose vein disease or “chronic venous disease,” he or she will consult with you on what your varicose vein treatment options may be. The severity of the disease, the size of your affected veins, how close they are to the surface of the skin, other health issues you may have, your lifestyle, and other factors all come into play when the doctor is determining what type of varicose vein treatment would be most effective in treating your condition.

The two most common varicose vein treatments are Endovenus Laser Treatment (ELT) and Sclerotherapy. In some cases, you may only need one session of one type of treatment. However, in other cases, the vein doctor may decide that it would be best to treat your varicose veins in more than one treatment and or with more than one type of procedure. However, you should know that both of these common varicose vein treatments are only minimally invasive and should not hurt much or leave a scar. In most cases, you’ll be able to go back to your normal daily activities in a day or two with only a few restrictions such as no hot showers for a week.

The most important thing is to quit procrastinating and go get checked out. In most cases, the anxiety one creates in their mind over what MAY be is actually worse than what is! Yes, you may need varicose vein treatment but it may be far more simple than you currently think. The only way you’ll know for sure is to set up an appointment and get that duplex ultrasound. What your vein doctor reports to you on your condition may very well allay most of the fear you currently have about varicose vein treatment. This is true for many, if not most, varicose vein sufferers.
